Doily Fashion

Ooh, boy, you're in for a treat today!
We have a doily shirt!!!
...With Irish crochet roses!!!
...And someone who was willing to model it with her bra showing underneath, clear as day...

There is also a model in what appears to be a doily-based slip and/or nighty... only she's modeling it in a pair of red high heels and in full jewelry... So maybe we are meant to understand that this is what she's wearing as she prepares to leave the house... But that's impossible, so I refuse to believe it.  No, she's just all dressed up for the boudoir.  Yep.  That must be it.

In 3-D!!!

What could be better than a meshy doily-dress covered in daisies...?

Why, a meshy doily-dress covered in 3-D daisies, of course!!

...Another of those "where would you ever wear something like this?" items...

What the Frou-Frou Nightmare?!

Today's Yarn Yuck is a curious case...

On the one hand, I can't imagine anything more little-lady, lacy frou-frou.  I mean, oh my gosh!  The doily-esque fabric!  The pompoms!  The spiral dangles! The mesh leg-warmers (with more pompoms)!

On the other... short skirts and see-through tops, anyone?  (Heck, in the version on the left, you can see through skirt, too.)

As usual, I can't help but wonder if anyone actually wears this stuff.  And is so, where are they wearing it?

Doily Muumuu

Yes, there are times when a loose-fitting gown is ideal (mostly when you're lounging around the house on a lazy day-- or sick day), but does anyone really need to crochet one?

Imagine how much work must've gone into this thing!  You could be well on your way to completing an heirloom-quality crochet bedspread or tablecloth in a similar amount of time!

The Return of Doily-Pants

...Now with cool denim accents!

Do you prefer groovy doily bell-bottoms...?

...Or something a little more form-fitting?

Either way, we've got you covered.  (Well, sort of.)

Lacy, crocheted "doily pants"...

Nothin' like 'em for groovin' on your tip-toes...

Sensible Shoes

Here we have a fine example of the Soleless (though some might argue that it should be "Soulless") Doily Thong Sandal:

Obviously they're meant to be worn at the beach...
...Which I suppose is more responsible than suggesting that someone wear them to work...

...But think about it:
If you wear these to the beach, aren't you just asking for a bizarre tanline?

No, I'm sorry.  I cannot condone their use, beachside or anywhere else.
(They don't look very comfortable, anyway.)

Dear Crocheters Around the World:

Please repeat after me:

A doily is not a shirt.

It's just something I thought you might benefit from knowing.

It might help you avoid awkward situations-- you know, like being ogled by random men on the street, hearing people snickering behind your back, being ostracized from society-- that kind of thing.

P.S.  This would make a perfectly acceptable and even quite cute apron.  Just don't wear it as a shirt (especially with hardly anything underneath) and expect to be treated as a normal, competent adult.
