In the late 1970s/1980s, Mary Maxim's catalog had two pages of these intarsia sweaters for various hobbies. My mother made the leaping fish ones for my aunt/uncle (yes, matching fish sweaters, and they LOVED them). She refused to make me the one with the horse's head on the back on the grounds that it was too much intarsia if I was just going to grow out of it in a year anyway. It was a topic of great bitterness to my horse-crazy self at the time :-)
I am a crocheter and knitting is difficult for me even on simple things. That sweater must be EXTREMELY difficult.....so that guy better wear it!
